Thanks for your interest in coming to DC to participate in the first National Sex Worker Lobby Day on June 1! Below are logistics, details and links to share the info we need to plan our next steps. Please read through this if you are planning on joining us for in DC. We are asking that everyone agree to do one webinar/meeting to prep, and be available for the full day on Friday June 1, 10 – 4pm (depending on your team’s last meeting). If you have more questions, feel free to use the contact form and we’ll do our best to answer!
1. Prep: In the week leading up to the meetings on June 1, there will be a webinar on the afternoon of May 29. If you are in DC, there will be an in-person meeting based at HIPS on the evening of May 30. We will ask everyone to participate in one or the other. We’ll also be sending information such as what to wear, tips to prep, and info about the substance of the meetings.
2. Day-of Agenda:
10 – 12: Reviewing the meetings, discussing any last questions about talking points, getting into our lobby-day groups, practicing and assigning roles.
12 – 1: Lunch (provided) and head to the capital (and taking a group picture – we always forget about the group picture).
1 – 4pm: Meetings with Representatives
*** For those with mobility or energy concerns, there will be time for breaks, and our morning location is blocks from the Hill. Please note this on the google form and you will be assigned to a group who does not go between buildings.
3. Travel: SWOPUSA has a small number of travel stipends, especially earmarked for trans/GNC POC, rural sex workers, and geographically diverse – those who are most impacted by SESTA, and are the voices which have been underrepresented in too many of these conversations. If you’d like to apply, go here. The deadline is May 10.
Note: If you’re coming from Baltimore and just need a Marc ticket, please send a note to flag that in your google form, we may be able to use a different pot of money.
4. Let us know you’re coming! Fill out this form so we can make it official! It’ll not only help us figure out numbers for food, guide which Representatives to prioritize meetings with (we want you to meet yours!), but most importantly you’ll be put on the list to get the relevant emails. The sooner we hear from you the better.
